Innovation is crucial to transforming the UK energy system to meet carbon reduction targets and achieve our clean growth ambitions.
Energy Systems Catapult has developed the Energy Knowledge eXchange™ (EKX) – a free digital collaborative service designed to reduce the time and effort required for innovators to find valuable information, such as research outcomes, test data, demonstration facilities and spot funding opportunities.
Energy innovators – both experts and newcomers alike – have had great difficulty in accessing knowledge and finding the right people to contact. While there is an abundance of information already contained within many websites, databases and more, getting access quickly and easily to the right information can be difficult.
Collating, signposting and sharing information between parties is crucial in driving the transformation of the energy system. Information management is a key part of ensuring a variety of stakeholders and partners can share information and assemble the jigsaw pieces of data to support innovation.
Created with our partners, and with support from Innovate UK. EKX saves innovators time and money by reducing the amount of time required to find valuable information by signposting information that can be hard to find, making knowledge more accessible. Some of the hidden resources EKX can unlock are research outcomes, test data and demonstration facilities and spot funding opportunities
EKX lets users discover energy knowledge in multiple ways – either by entering their own searches or by using it to suggest related resources automatically. The service works by signposting additional related content on the web page that an innovator has landed on, therefore making knowledge more accessible, without the user needing to know any specific terminology or industry jargon. It is best used with general purpose web-search, but is adaptive and tailors the journey to each user irrespective of their start point.
EKX signposts can already be found across thousands of web pages and have been delivered in partnership with respected industry stakeholders including the Energy Networks Association (ENC), UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC), Energy Data Centre, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Energy Information Centre (EIC). Our partners also offer further services to innovators and SMEs via EKX, including links to support networks, collaboration opportunities, sources of funding and supporting productive partnerships. You may have already seen or used EKX on our partner websites.
