Utility Week’s Future Networks conference

Published: 24 March 2021

Energy Systems Catapult will be contributing to a panel at the upcoming Utility Week Future Networks Conference which brings together energy network CEOs and COOs as well as directors, heads and managers responsible for innovation, regulation, strategy and more, to set out how net zero challenges will be managed within RIIO2 constraints.

At a time of great excitement, uncertainty and rapid change, this conference will deliver clarity for business planning and future operations, ensuring energy networks are able to play their pivotal role in the UK’s energy transition with confidence and keep delivering for customers.

Session

Eric Brown, the Chief Technology Officer at Energy Systems Catapult, will take part in ‘panel discussion and questions: perspectives on effective co-ordination of local and national decarbonisation interests’ which will cover some of the following questions:

  • How do you ensure the regulatory regime is flexible enough to allow for diversity in local decarbonisation pathways?
  • What should the role of the proposed ISO and/or independent net zero agency be in aligning local and national decarbonisation interests?
  • Is there sufficient collaboration and impartiality in the advice power and gas networks provide to local authorities on their decarbonisation plans?
  • How do you future proof your whole system energy strategy when you don’t know what the future holds?
