After an early career in advanced manufacturing, working as a company secretary and lawyer with both GEC and Courtaulds Textiles, Rob has practised as a solicitor in several leading law firms.

Rob founded BPE Innovation in July 2010, the UK’s first and, still, only dedicated legal service to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (‘STEM’). Working at the interface between the private sector and Government in the UK’s innovation community, Rob has been involved in the establishment of most of the major publicly funded companies created in recent years to fill the innovation gap in the sectors which they serve.

In addition to being the legal adviser to learned societies like the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Physiological Society, Rob sits on the board of several major companies working in STEM, including the Knowledge Transfer Network Limited and the Open Data Institute.

Rob is a visiting lecturer at Warwick University, teaching on their post-graduate technology protection programme. He has a keen interest in innovation in energy.
