Response to Ofgem's Call for Input on data sharing in a digital future: consumer consent

Energy Systems Catapult welcomes the call for input and the progression of the Energy Digitalisation Taskforce’s recommendations. The ability for consumers to effectively manage their consent across several data assets in the future is a key part of the future energy system. Consent as well as consumer acceptance of new technologies as the transition gathers pace will be of vital importance to ensure the decarbonisation of the energy system.

We broadly agree with what Ofgem have set out in this call for input.

We think an iteration of Ofgem’s ‘option one’ is the right approach and that it should be developed in such a way to enable the consent dashboard to become the ‘system of record’ for consent management relevant to use cases that have been defined in codes and licences. Other systems that sit outside the regulated sphere in energy can then develop interoperable solutions that could work with it.
