Helping you stay warm and safe, so your health isn’t affected by the cold
Have you been invited to receive a warm home prescription?
If you’re invited to the service and sign up, we help you to heat your home to a healthy temperature through winter months.
Find out how we do this below.
While energy prices are rising and cost of living continues to pressure UK households, millions of people are living with health conditions made worse by the cold.
That’s why we run Warm Home Prescription services with everyday health and energy organisations.
What is a healthy indoor temperature?
The recommended minimum temperature for your home is 18°C.
The World Health Organization and NHS recommend keeping your home at 18°C or warmer to protect your health. Living in a colder home can have negative effects, particularly if you’re older or have health conditions.
Remember, what feels warm is different for everyone. The right temperature for you is what makes you feel comfortable and healthy.

The 'right now' solution
Need help staying warm this winter? Our first step is to support you with heating your home. We’ll make a contribution toward your heating costs so you can turn it up or keep it on longer in order to stay warm and well.
Here’s how it works:
- Our advisor will ask a few quick questions about your home, heating, and energy provider to figure out how much we will contribute.
- Once we’ve worked that out, we’ll explain the next steps and how the payment will be made.
The exact details depend on your energy supplier and meter type, but we’ll guide you through everything.
Ensuring comfort for the future
This solution ensures you stay warm in the future without high energy bills. We can connect you to programs that help fund or reduce the cost of making your home more energy-efficient.
These programs can help with:
- Insulating walls or loft spaces
- Upgrading heating systems
- Adding renewable energy like solar panels
Funding may be available through government initiatives like:
- ECO
- The Great British Insulation Scheme
- Home Energy Scotland
- Other local energy programs
We’ll help you find the right option for your home to keep you warm and well.
