Enabling Local Energy: Effective Net Zero Decision Making

As international leaders prepare to converge at COP26, it is easy to underplay the local authority decisions and policies closer to home that will have far-reaching impact on our low carbon future.

Local political leaders and local authority decision makers have a critical part to play in the local energy transition, actioning high employment, low carbon initiatives to deliver the UK’s levelling up and net zero agendas.

But are current decision-making practices hampering the realisation of local energy?  Are local authorities able to ensure that key stakeholders are included at the right time, with the correct information to allow projects to progress smoothly? How can approaches be optimised to get maximum buy-in, facilitate cross-boundary collaboration, and make choices that look beyond assumptions and instead consider local people, local assets, and economic growth?

Join us ahead of COP26 on Tues 19 October for our latest webinar Enabling Local Energy: Effective Net Zero Decision Making, where we will share our latest research and recommendations on innovative approaches that can enable and accelerate local authority-supported energy projects to help meet the future objectives of communities.

You will also hear from leading voices in local government decision making, local government innovators, and get the opportunity to help shape the solutions through co-development of the forthcoming UKRI-funded Net Zero Toolkit.

CONTEXT

This webinar Enabling Local Energy: Effective Net Zero Decision Making continues the work of ESC and its Energy Revolution Integration Service (ERIS) to support local authorities in delivering a local energy transition for people, place, and planet.

AGENDA

This webinar brings together knowledge, experience and expertise across local government along with research recently undertaken to explore the challenges that many local authorities are facing to secure decisions to invest in local energy systems.

The session will share innovations in how decisions can be better made to accelerate local authority-supported energy projects, and inform the design of a forthcoming Net Zero Toolkit – funded by UKRI and being developed by ESC – to help local authorities turn net zero ambitions into actionable plans.
