Professor Aoife Foley is Chair in Net Zero Infrastructure in the School of Engineering at The University of Manchester.

She has more than 30 years of experience across industry and academia, including around 15 years delivering major infrastructure projects in the energy, telecommunications, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Her research focuses on energy systems, infrastructure, and the net zero transition, spanning electricity networks and markets, renewable energy, forecasting, storage, electric vehicles, flexibility, interconnection, energy system modelling and emerging AI and data centre demand. She uses a broad range of engineering, statistical, probabilistic, computational, and techno-economic methods to understand complex energy system problems and support infrastructure, policy, and investment decisions.

She has advised governments, regulators, and industry, ranks among the Stanford and Elsevier Top 2% of scientists worldwide, and is an editorial board member of the Nature Portfolio journal Scientific Reports.
