10/06/2022 - WEEFT Policy Conference: Negative emissions technologies (NETs) and greenhouse gas removals (GGRs)
Westminster Energy, Environment & Transport Forum (WEEFT): Negative emissions technologies (NETs) and greenhouse gas removals (GGRs) – policy, investment, innovation, development, commercialisation and measurement
This conference on the 10th June will examine the key priorities for engineered Greenhouse Gas Removals (GGRs) in the UK, including in hard-to-abate sectors.
It will be a timely opportunity to examine current technology readiness – as well as looking ahead at priorities for further innovation and scaling up prototype technologies.
The discussion takes place in the context of the Net Zero Strategy target of 5 MtCO2/year of engineered removals by 2030, the latest IPCC Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change report citing carbon removal as essential in meeting net-zero targets, and reports of the Government reconsidering postponing the closure of coal-fired power stations and increased North Sea oil and gas production.
Dr Danial Sturge, Practice Manager – Carbon Policy at the Catapult will be speaking about ‘Developing a greenhouse gas emissions and removal system: Priorities for measurement – setting robust standards for monitoring, reporting and verification of negative emissions.
