Smart Home Expo 2020: Energy Innovation Partnership

Energy Systems Catapult has announced its partnership with Smart Home Expo 2020, taking place on 17-18 March 2020 at Birmingham’s NEC.

The Future of Smart Home Technology

Showcasing the latest solutions and innovations in smart technologies, this year’s show will focus on key innovations taking the industry by storm – from smart buildings and commercial spaces, to smart home devices and their future.

  • Smart home technology has the potential to revolutionise how consumers use energy in their homes through;
  • Smart thermostats
  • Connected homes – remote heating controls connected through Wi Fi and IoT
  • Voice command or voice control heating
  • Smart plugs and light bulbs

For 2020, the show has evolved with the launch of the new zone, Smart Buildings LIVE – the UK’s hub for the innovations driving Smart Buildings forward. This feature groups together world class speakers, panel sessions, live demos, workshops and visitors from commercial property end-users to real estate developers.

Energy Systems Catapult at Smart Home Expo Birmingham

As part of the Catapult’s partnership with Smart Homes Expo, Paul Jordan, Business Leader for the Innovator Support Platform (ISP), and Matthew Lipson, Business Leader for Consumer Insight, will both be speaking at the event, whilst the Catapult’s Living Lab 2.0 team will be taking a stand at the event to introduce the Catapult’s latest work in this area.

Energy Systems Catapult’s Consumer Insight capability combines cutting-edge data science, user-experience design thinking and in-depth consumer research to help innovators see beyond what people say and understand what they do. This helps energy innovators to accelerate products, services and business models to market with research, design and consumer energy trials in real-world homes.

The ISP is a dedicated service that draws upon the Catapult’s assets, providing innovators with tailored incubation and acceleration support to help businesses address systemic barriers, de-risk innovation, scale and secure investment.

Matthew will be delivering a keynote presentation on Consumer Insight’s ‘Living Lab, whilst Paul is taking part in the panel session Smart Technology in Property Development: Risk vs Reward. Here, the panel will be discussing whether investing in smart technology is worth the risk and looking at what some of the rewards might be.
