Electrification of Heat - Interim Insights from Heat Pump Performance Data
This document provides interim insights from the monitoring data between November 2020 and August 2022 of the Electrification of Heat Demonstration Project. The monitoring period is ongoing until September 2023 and this document will be superseded by future insights following the cessation of the monitoring period and the analysis of the final dataset. At the time of writing, there is an insufficient data sample to draw any conclusions on the performance of Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP), as such, GSHPs are not included in the data analysis.
The analysis within the report will be refreshed, and additional analysis undertaken after the completion of the projects monitoring period in Autumn 2023.
To collect the monitoring data, a monitoring system has been installed which meters each electrical component of the system as well as the heat pump heat output. A rigorous quality checking, cleansing and analysis process has been undertaken on the collected data to ensure robust data and analysis results.
Key findings
Measured real-world performance of Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) has increased significantly compared to data from past field trials.
Heat pumps performed well even on the coldest observed days, with only a relatively small reduction in performance.
High Temperature ASHPs had comparable efficiencies to Low Temperature ASHPs, indicating that they are a viable solution to reduce home retrofit requirements.

This dataset is derived from the monitored heat pump performance data and provides a summary of the performance data quantity and quality and the data analysis outcomes.
This dataset provides the data at an average 2-minute time interval for each property from the point at which the heat pump was installed in August 2022. Please note, this dataset cannot be accessed via Excel.
