Joint Workshops: Industrial Sector Challenge on clean energy for industry and clean hydrogen supply chains

Context

Australia and the UK entered into a Clean Technology Partnership on 29 July 2021 to cooperate on low emissions solutions to make low emissions technologies globally scalable and commercially viable, to support global emissions reductions and enable clean growth. Under the partnership, Australia and the UK have committed to develop a joint industry emissions reduction challenge.

A joint industrial sector challenge will aim to reduce emissions and increase energy affordability and competitiveness, while ensuring energy reliability. It will also aim to create new economic and collaboration opportunities between Australian and UK industry. Our governments want to hear from industry how the challenge could support pilot, demonstration and pre‑commercial projects to drive innovation in low emissions technologies, backed by private sector investment. We are planning two areas for a joint challenge which would contribute towards industrial decarbonisation: clean energy for industry; and clean hydrogen supply chains.

Joint Workshops

Against this context, the Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (AusTrade) on behalf of the UK Government’s Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources (DISER) are proposing to hold two virtual workshops, to delve into these challenges in more detail and explore how collaboration between industry and government could support both countries in their adoption of low emissions solutions to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

The workshops would be of most interest to Australian and UK private-sector businesses, particularly innovators, who are looking to build production and export opportunities, or manufacturers of technology seeking to support hydrogen producers. We also anticipate value and knowledge sharing potential for a range of other stakeholders involved in academia, research, public sector and not‑for‑profit organisations.

The workshops are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Clean energy for industry: 2nd February 2022, 8am UK time / 7pm Aus time
  • Clean hydrogen supply chains: 3rd February 2022, 8am UK time / 7pm Aus time

This event will be invite-only. To be kept informed about these workshops, please register your interest.
