10/02/22 - The UK Emissions Trading Scheme Next Steps

Westminster Energy, Environment & Transport Forum

The UK Emissions Trading Scheme and next steps for operation, expanding engagement, and remaining competitive

This conference is focusing on the future of the UK’s Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS), bringing together key stakeholders and policymakers to discuss the next steps for implementation and operation, the wider challenge of supporting energy-intensive decarbonisation, and the potential for building international partnerships.

Delegates will assess year one of the UK ETS – following the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme Order 2020 which set the framework and rules for operation – alongside opportunities for fine-tuning and developing the scheme. The conference will also look at international examples, such as the EU ETS, and opportunities for aligning with international schemes in the long term.

Dr Danial Sturge, Practice Manager for Carbon Policy at the Energy Systems Catapult will be speaking as part of a panel on ‘Year one of UK ETS and priorities going forward – fine-tuning governance and auctions, balancing carbon allowances and price floors, and simplifying compliance’ with representatives from Energy UK, BSI and London School of Economics and Political Science.

You can register for this event on the Westminster Forum Projects Website.
