Cutting-edge, whole-systems evidence and analysis to catalyse Net Zero
The Energy Systems Nexus is an industry-funded Net Zero collaboration initiative aiming to deliver robust whole energy systems evidence and cutting-edge analysis for the energy sector.
Successful organisations of the future will be those who can identify the opportunities from Net Zero. To understand, de-risk and leverage opportunities from the transition to Net Zero, leading edge whole systems analysis, collaboration and new partnerships are needed.
The Nexus aims to build a diverse group of industry members that is truly representative of the whole system to define and fund a programme of whole energy system research & development (R&D). This will be collaboratively delivered by Energy Systems Catapult and other partners with industry leading capabilities to create evidence and insight that’s independent of partisan interests.
By bringing together members, world leading experts and key UK energy system organisations, the aim is to explore the opportunities and challenges faced by the sector in delivering Net Zero and provide a collaborative space to define the R&D priorities needed.
What does the Nexus aim to deliver?
1. Create a leading, industry-funded collaboration space for the pursuit of a whole energy systems approach to Net Zero, drawing on contributions from across industry, government, and academia.
2. Build on and expand existing UK capability in whole energy systems analysis, including datasets, modelling approaches, and resulting Net Zero solutions.
3. Form unique and impactful collaborations with leading organisations to deliver new insights for our members and the wider sector, informing strategic thinking and developing skills and institutional capacity.
4. Develop a cross-cutting R&D programme that allows the opportunities of an integrated energy system to be realised whilst overcoming the challenges of how to get there.
5. Deliver a pipeline of high impact analysis that de-risks decisions for industry, Government and the wider sector to enable Net Zero, across the UK and internationally.
Membership – Express your interest
The Nexus aims to build a small but diverse group of fee-paying members to co-fund a programme of R&D that de-risks their investment by addressing common needs of actors across the energy system to support the delivery of an integrated Net Zero system.
Big or small, we’d like to hear from progressive organisations working in the energy sector willing to put their hand in their pocket to fund Energy Systems Nexus. We have an opportunity to reshape how the sector designs, develops, and delivers on our low carbon priorities. Together, we can develop a robust evidence base for delivering Net Zero and define the R&D priorities that will get us there.
