Open data is crucial for innovation that will accelerate the energy system to Net Zero

Data is the single biggest enabler of a decarbonised, decentralised and digitised energy future. It’s the tool that will bridge the gap between where we are now versus where we need to be – to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Data is essential to optimising the value of assets and infrastructure, driving innovative services, better understanding risks, increasing system resilience, and driving us towards Net Zero carbon and decentralisation at best value to consumers.

The Energy Data Taskforce, commissioned by Government, and run by Energy Systems Catapult found that the creation of a ‘Modern, Digitalised Energy System’ is being hindered by valuable data often being restricted or hard to find.

We’ve created our Data Platform with the aim of making as much of our data (as possible) open to innovators to help them develop new products, services and business models that will drive the UK towards Net Zero.
